所被機宜
Those Capable of Receiving This Teaching
問。所被之機。依瑜伽論。有五種性。謂菩薩。緣覺。聲聞。不定。無種。此論被何。
Question: According to the Yogācāra tradition, beings are categorized into five spiritual dispositions: the Bodhisattva, the Pratyekabuddha, the Śrāvaka, the Indeterminate, and those with no disposition. Which kind does this treatise address?
答。唯被菩薩。及不定中趣佛果者。
Reply: This teaching is intended for Bodhisattvas and those among the indeterminate class who are striving toward Buddhahood.
問。若唯爾者。如何稱為普為之教也。
Question: If that's the case, then how can it be called a teaching that universally benefits everyone?
答。此約正被。約兼名普。
Answer. "Universal" refers to being correct and encompassing. "Universal" also means being all-encompassing in name.
