> Also called: Not permitted to keep \[the robe\] beyond the time limit before or after \[the proper period\]. From the sixth day of the seventh month onward, receiving \[the robe\] early is permitted, but receiving before that time is not allowed. "Urgent offering robe" refers to a robe given due to urgent circumstances. According to the \*Five Divisions\*, an urgent offering robe is given when an army is about to march and time is pressing—given past the usual time, not after. The \*Twelfth Division\* says: An urgent offering robe is when a man or woman, while at home, is about to go to war, or returns from war, or is on the verge of death, or a woman is about to be remarried. The donor says to the monk: "If you do not take it today, tomorrow it will be gone." This is called an urgent offering. From the sixth day of the seventh month onward, it is permitted to receive it. Up to the sixteenth day, there are altogether ten days in which one may receive an urgent offering robe. If there are no valid reasons, then receiving early is not allowed. However, if there are four conditions such as loss, confiscation, etc., receiving before the time is permitted. If a robe is entrusted to a monk traveling far away, or if the water route is cut off, keeping it beyond the time limit is allowed. Since these two offenses cannot be committed simultaneously, if one has already committed the offense of receiving before the time, then one does not commit the offense of keeping beyond the time limit. Third: Within the ten days. If a robe is obtained outside the ten-day period—for example, obtained on the fifth day of the seventh month—it is called an offense of receiving before the time. Having received it early, there is no offense. The meaning of the offense of keeping beyond the time limit must therefore arise within the ten-day period. For example, obtaining the robe on the sixteenth day of the seventh month: since it does not violate the rule of receiving early, it is pure <note>a few words omitted</note>, and only the offense of keeping beyond the time limit is committed. This is because the robe is not subject to a double offense. For instance, if one receives an urgent offering robe on the fourteenth day of the seventh month, one may keep it for two days, then enter the \*kaṭhina\* period. Outside the \*kaṭhina\* period, eight more days are still permitted. Thus, if received on the thirteenth day, one may keep it for seven days; if received on the twelfth day, it extends to the seventh day of the month. After receiving it, there remains one day. With one day before and one day after, permission is granted accordingly.
