### 熱地獄者

> Hot Hell

依媻沙論南洲下至無間共四萬由旬上尖下濶猶如穀聚○薩媻多論南洲下土泥五百由旬白墡五百由旬等活至極熱七獄共高一萬九千由旬各廣萬由旬無間高廣各二萬由旬○法苑偈云初七各濶五百旬後一三十二萬里縱廣正等銅鐵成有情上品惡所生○因本經云四大洲諸山王外別有一山名鐵圍高六百八十萬由旬縱廣亦爾金剛所成此山外復有一重大鐵圍山高廣正等兩山之間極大黑闇無有光明日月有八大地獄謂活大地獄等　○無間去聲下同。

> Based on the Abhidharma Treatise, the Southern Continent extends downward to the Uninterrupted Hell, totaling forty thousand yojanas in depth, with a narrow top and wide bottom, shaped like a pile of grain. According to the Sarvāstivāda Treatise, beneath the Southern Continent there are five hundred yojanas of soil and five hundred yojanas of soft clay. The seven hells—from the Reviving Hell up to the Intensely Hot Hell—together rise to a height of nineteen thousand yojanas, each spanning ten thousand yojanas in width. The Uninterrupted Hell is twenty thousand yojanas in both height and width. As the verse in the Dharma Garden says: "The first seven hells each stretch five hundred yojanas wide, while the last one reaches three hundred twenty thousand li. Its length and width are equal, forged of copper and iron, where beings of supreme evil are reborn." According to the Cause and Effect Sutra, beyond the great mountains surrounding the four continents lies another mountain called the Iron Wall, six million eight hundred thousand yojanas in both height and circumference, made of vajra. Beyond this mountain lies yet another great Iron Wall, equal in height and breadth. Between these two mountains is utter darkness, devoid of any light, where neither sun nor moon shines. There are eight great hells, beginning with the Reviving Hell and so forth. The Uninterrupted Hell—\[note: pronounced with a falling tone, as below\].\[/note\]

壽量者按阿毗曇論云等活壽五百歲黑繩千歲次第倍增至炎熱一萬六千歲極熱半劫無間一劫。

> As for the lifespan in the various hells, according to the Abhidharma Treatise: in the Hell of Repeated Revival, the lifespan is five hundred years; in the Hell of the Black Rope, it is a thousand years; each successive hell doubles the lifespan until the Great Heat Hell, where it is sixteen thousand years. The lifespan in the Hell of Extreme Heat is half a kalpa, and in the Avichi Hell, it is one full kalpa.

俱舍論云等活一晝夜當四王天五百歲次第至炎熱一晝夜當他化天一萬六千歲○較量壽命經云。

> According to the \*Abhidharmakośa\*, one day and night in the Hell of Repeated Revival equals five hundred years in the Heaven of the Four Kings. This progression continues up to the Hell of Torment, where one day and night equals sixteen thousand years in the Heaven of Others’ Creations. The \*Sūtra on Comparing Lifespans\* states:

等活一晝夜比人間一萬六千二百俱胝秊俱胝此云億數。

> One day and night in the Arising-and-Falling Hell equals sixteen thousand two hundred million human years<note>One hundred million is called a "kot!"</note>.

黑繩一晝夜比人間三萬二千四百俱胝秊加一倍為二。

眾合一晝夜比人間六萬四千八百俱胝秊加二倍為四。

呌喚一晝夜比人間十二萬九千六百俱胝秊加四為八。

大呌喚一晝夜比人間二十五萬九千二百俱胝秊。

焰熱一晝夜比人間五十一萬八千四百俱胝秊。
