第七祖婆須蜜。北天竺國人。姓頗羅墮氏。始常服淨衣。持一酒器。神氣自若。人皆不測。及遇彌遮迦顯其夙因。遂投器從之出家。證道納戒。行化至迦摩羅國。以論議服佛陀難提。為之弟子。將入涅槃。乃以法付之。說偈曰。
The Seventh Patriarch, Vasumitra, was a native of North India, of the Bharadvaja clan. At first he always wore pure, clean garments and carried a single wine vessel, his bearing calm and self-possessed; no one could fathom him. When he encountered Miccaka, who revealed to him his past-life causes, he cast away the vessel and followed him, left home, realized the Way, and received the precepts. Traveling to teach, he came to the country of Kamarupa, where by debate he won over Buddhanandi, who became his disciple. About to enter Nirvana, he transmitted the Dharma to him, speaking this verse:
心同虛空界 示等虛空法
證得虛空時 無是無非法
The mind is like the realm of space, revealing dharmas equal to space. When one realizes and attains space, there is no "is" and no "is not" of dharmas.
