Master Lin said: In ancient times, people had this Thus-Come One within them, and they explained the Thus-Come One through the Thus-Come One. People today also have this Thus-Come One within them, and they explain the Thus-Come One through the Thus-Come One. When explaining the Thus-Come One that the ancient Thus-Come One taught, some say "I," some say "Thus-Come One"; the Thus-Come One is the "I," and the "I" is the Thus-Come One. Therefore, by explaining the "I" through the "I," the meaning of "I" can be clarified. If the "I" is not explained through the "I," the meaning of "I" cannot be clarified. The sutra says: "This person does not understand the meaning I teach." Thus, for their sake, the Thus-Come One is explained; the title of this text is *The Meaning of 'I' Taught by the Thus-Come One*. And what is called the Thus-Come One is none other than that by which Shakyamuni is Shakyamuni—the Thus-Come One.
Linzi said: I am Thusness; Thusness is the Way. A single, undivided Way containing all principles—this is my Thusness, my emptiness. Wherever there is emptiness, there is Thusness. Wherever there is Thusness, there is the Way. Thus, the boundlessness of emptiness is the fullness of Thusness; The fullness of Thusness is the flowing of the Way.
