The Dharma Treasury Fragments of Gold is a Buddhist notebook-style work authored by Chao Jiong, a renowned minister of the Northern Song Dynasty. Composed during the early Northern Song period against the backdrop of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, the author devoted his later years to Buddhist studies, synthesizing the essence of these three traditions. The entire work records insights from spiritual practice in the form of随笔, covering topics such as mind cultivation, exploration of Chan principles, and life philosophy, with concise language and profound meaning. In Buddhist history, this work is regarded as an important text of lay Buddhism, interpreting the profound teachings of the Dharma through worldly wisdom. It has exerted a lasting influence on later literati’s engagement with Buddhism and the development of Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism, serving as a precious classic for the study of the integration of Chinese Buddhist thought.
