The Sanskrit Manuscript of the *Mahāmāyūrī Vidyārājñī Sūtra and Mantras* was brought to Japan by the Japanese monk Ennin, who traveled to Tang China in search of Buddhist teachings. This scripture belongs to the esoteric Buddhist tradition, with Mahāmāyūrī Vidyārājñī as its central deity. Its core content comprises mantras, dhāraṇīs, and ritual practices aimed at eliminating calamities, curing illnesses, protecting the state, and bringing peace to the people. The text integrates incantatory arts with Buddhist philosophy, reflecting the flourishing state of esoteric Buddhism during the Tang dynasty. This Sanskrit manuscript not only serves as a crucial document for studying the eastward transmission of Tang esotericism but also stands as a significant material witness to Sino-Japanese Buddhist cultural exchange. It holds a revered position in both Chinese esoteric Buddhism and the Japanese Shingon school.
