省庵法師。為蓮池大師後一人。故曰蓮宗九祖。上下千載。九人而已。皆由君子儒而成蓮宗祖師也。各有傳略著述。傳世。其於儒釋道三教。各得其正。皆有其功。豈獨釋家幸有其人而已哉。如法師遺書詩文。明儒通釋。闡釋輔儒。與夫垂示念佛修淨土。惟精惟一。至簡至明。洵為苦海慈航。迷途寶筏。因兵燹後。書既尠覯。板又莫存。邗上重甯海雲禪師。亟圖續刻廣布。亦猶秉燭於夜行。指津於失路。予樂助之。以成其志。由斯人得追溯源流。同歸正覺。復明本體。胥獲真詮。將見蓮宗纘緒。代不乏人。左道異端。概無惑世。豈非吾儕之至幸。九祖之厚望也歟。

> Master Sheng'an was the foremost successor to Master Lianchi, thus known as the Ninth Patriarch of the Lotus School. Across a thousand years, only nine individuals have held this title. Each began as a Confucian scholar-gentleman before becoming a patriarch of the Lotus School. Each left behind biographies and writings that have been passed down through the ages. Regarding the three teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, each has its proper place and its own merits. It is not merely a fortunate circumstance for Buddhism to have such figures. For instance, Master Sheng'an's surviving letters, poems, and essays clarify Confucianism through Buddhist insight and elucidate Buddhism to support Confucian principles. His teachings on mindfulness of the Buddha and cultivation of the Pure Land are both profound and singular, supremely simple and clear—truly a compassionate vessel across the sea of suffering, a precious raft for those lost on the path. After the ravages of war, his writings became rare, and the printing blocks were lost. The Venerable Haiyun of Chongning Temple in Hanjiang urgently sought to re-carve and widely distribute them. This is like carrying a torch for night travelers or pointing the way for those who have lost their path. I gladly assist in fulfilling this aspiration. Through this, people may trace the source and flow, together return to right awakening, rediscover their fundamental nature, and all attain the true teaching. Then we shall see the lineage of the Lotus School continue unbroken through the generations, with no shortage of successors. Heterodox paths and deviant doctrines will find no power to delude the world. Is this not our greatest fortune and the profound hope of the Nine Patriarchs?
