The "Continuation of the Chronicle of the Buddhas and Patriarchs" is a Chinese Buddhist historical and biographical text compiled by the eminent monk Master Dayou of the Ming Dynasty. This work aims to extend the "Chronicle of the Buddhas and Patriarchs" by Zhi Pan of the Southern Song Dynasty, filling the historical gap in Buddhism from the late Song to the early Ming periods. Continuing the biographical style of the Tiantai lineage, it provides detailed accounts of the patriarchs' biographies, the origins and development of the school, and major Buddhist events, serving as a vital component of Tiantai historical literature. Although parts of the text have been lost, the surviving content holds irreplaceable value for studying the development of the Tiantai school during the Yuan and Ming dynasties and for understanding Chinese Buddhist history. It offers crucial documentary evidence for later generations to comprehend the lineage transmission and doctrinal evolution of this period.
