### No. 1164-1b原䟦

> Original Postscript

> The sutra says: "The three realms are merely mind; the ten thousand phenomena are merely consciousness." The ancients said: "Recite the Amitabha of your own nature; be reborn in the Pure Land of mind-only." Putting these together, the meaning becomes clear: the mind creates the Buddha, and the mind is the Buddha. There is no Buddha outside the mind, and no mind outside the Buddha. Later people, not understanding this, mistakenly separate the Western Pure Land from mind-only, or separate the compassionate Buddha of infinite virtues from the self-nature's Amitabha. Doesn't this imply a Buddha outside the mind, or a mind outside the Buddha? Master Lingfeng deeply understood that mind-nature has no bounds, and composed the \*Essential Explanation\* for this sutra. As soon as one reads it, anyone can grasp for themselves the method of faith, vows, and practice. Not only are the words simple and the meaning complete, but this rare and profound teaching rings out like a bell and drum, opening the entire sutra treasury so that nothing remains hidden. Truly, this has never been seen before in ancient or modern times. Called the \*Essential Explanation\*, it may be the ultimate essential teaching of all.
