The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Changling Shouzhuo was compiled by the Song Dynasty Chan master Jie Chen, containing the Chan teachings, pointed dialogues, and poetic verses of his teacher Changling Shouzhuo. Completed during the transition between the Northern and Southern Song dynasties, this work reflects the distinctive Chan style of the Yangqi branch of the Linji school, emphasizing the direct pointing to the mind and realizing one's inherent Buddha-nature. Its content covers methods of Chan practice, discourses on the nature of mind, and guidance for daily cultivation, expressed in sharp and profound language that carries both literary and philosophical value. As one of the important recorded sayings of the Song Dynasty Chan tradition, it serves not only as a primary source for studying Master Shouzhuo's thought but also as a key text for understanding the evolution of Yangqi Chan and the development of Song Dynasty Chan Buddhism, holding a pivotal position in Buddhist history as a bridge between past and future.
