The *Record of Master Weilin Daopei's Return to the Mountain*, compiled and edited by his attendants Xingdeng, Xinliang, Fayun, and Xinglang, is a collection of the recorded sayings of the eminent late Ming–early Qing Linji Chan master Weilin Daopei. Composed during the Buddhist revival at the Ming-Qing transition, this work contains the master's discourses, Dharma talks, poetic verses, and letters, centrally embodying his Chan approach that integrates Chan practice with Pure Land devotion and emphasizes experiential realization. As a significant text of the Linji school, this record not only transmits the essential mind teachings of Chan but also reflects the practical ethos of the Chan community of that era. It holds considerable value for the study of Ming-Qing Buddhist history and Chan thought, standing as an authoritative work within Buddhist literature that combines theoretical depth with practical guidance.
