Now, the Purple Mansion is a renowned mountain, the place where the Seven Buddhas’ teacher dwells in truth. The Pure and Cool Sacred Ground is the realm where ten thousand bodhisattvas conceal their traces. Spanning ancient and modern times, it is fully recorded in maps and texts. Fragrant and wondrous spiritual plants, pure and clear secluded stones and cold springs. Auspicious energy breathes from the forest, propitious clouds stretch across the ridges. Dark cliffs at night glow brightly, with lamps and candles ever shining. Emerald caves at dawn echo deeply, with drums and bells always resounding. Elders wander freely among streams and valleys, children play amidst mist and rosy clouds. Brilliant pavilions and towers, dignified and adorned; lofty halls and temples, majestic and splendid. Sometimes eminent monks visit from afar, sometimes noble families come in person. Observing the transformative signs, they form connections for attaining the Way; gazing upon the auspicious features, they awaken sincere vows. Cultivating special causes on this day, they will realize wondrous fruits in future lives. Ever beholding the light of the jade-tipped hair, always abiding in the golden-colored realm. Those who awaken and penetrate recognize mind and see true nature; those who take refuge eliminate obstacles and dispel calamities. It can be said that blessings are not wasted, merits are not abandoned in vain. Compiling and connecting records of transmission, spreading them throughout the world. Guiding and leading the simple-minded, all deeply and truly believe. Together ascending the path of awakening, together entering the profound gate. Riding together the boat of prajñā, ascending together to the shore of nirvāṇa. The seventeenth day of the second month, in the year Xīnchǒu of the Dàdìng era. In the Snow Hall of the Chóngshòu Chan Monastery of Yǒng'ān, the hermit monk Guǎngyīng, respectfully composed this preface.
