The Sutra of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Dharani

序品第一
Chapter 1: Prologue
如是我聞：
This is what I have heard:
一時佛在雞喇斯山，與無央數菩薩眾俱。爾時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩從座而起，整理衣服，長跪合掌，前白佛言：「世尊！我有大蓮華峯金剛祕密無障礙如意輪陀羅尼明三昧耶，能於一切勝福事業所求皆得如意成就。如來大慈許我說者，我當承佛神力，廣為饒益一切有情意願故說。世尊！是陀羅尼明有大威神，如天意樹為諸明仙雨大寶雨，所欲皆得；等摩尼珠能滿一切有情一切勝願。唯希如來慈哀加持。」爾時世尊告觀自在菩薩摩訶薩言：「善哉善哉！汝以大悲為諸有情故發是問。我已加持，聽汝無礙說示如意輪陀羅尼明。」
Once, the Buddha was at Mount Kṛṣṇa, accompanied by countless Bodhisattvas. At that time, the great Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara rose from his seat, adjusted his robes, knelt respectfully with palms together, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honored One! I possess the great Lotus Peak Vajra Secret Unobstructed Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Dhāraṇī Bright Samaya, which can perfectly accomplish all superior and fortunate endeavors, fulfilling whatever is sought. If the Tathāgata, in his great compassion, permits me to speak it, I shall rely on the Buddha's spiritual power and extensively proclaim it for the benefit and fulfillment of all sentient beings' aspirations. World-Honored One! This Dhāraṇī Bright has great majestic power. Like the wish-granting tree that rains down great treasures for the bright immortals, granting all desires; it is equal to the wish-fulfilling jewel, capable of satisfying all superior wishes of all sentient beings. I only beseech the Tathāgata, in his compassionate kindness, to bestow his empowerment."
Then the World-Honored One said to the great Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: "Excellent, excellent! Out of great compassion for sentient beings, you have raised this question. I have already empowered it. I grant you permission to proclaim without hindrance the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Dhāraṇī Bright."
爾時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩承佛告旨，顧及眷屬，即起合掌修敬頂禮，繞佛三匝還坐本座，以歡喜心諦觀會眾熙怡微笑，即說根本陀羅尼明曰：
At that moment, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, having received the Buddha’s instruction, turned to the assembly, rose with palms joined in reverence, bowed deeply, circled the Buddha three times, and returned to his seat. With a joyful heart, he gazed upon the gathering, smiled gently, and proclaimed the root dhāraṇī mantra:
「娜謨囉怛娜二合那可反(上下同音)怛囉二合野耶(一)娜麼阿去唎耶二合(二)嚩無可反嚧枳諦濕嚩二合(同上音)囉耶(三)菩提薩埵耶(四)摩訶薩埵耶(五)摩訶迦居邏反(下同音)嚕抳迦耶(六)怛姪寧也反他去(七)唵喉中擡聲引呼之(八)斫羯囉𮧬無遏反囉二合底振跢磨抳(九)摩訶鉢頭途邑反謎(十)嚕嚕(十一)底瑟侘魑賈反(十二)入嚩無可反二合攞(十三)阿去迦唎沙踈下反野(十四)虎𤙖二合(十五)柿吒(十六)半音莎去嚩二合訶(十七)」
I take refuge in the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One. (1) I take refuge in the Noble One. (2) I take refuge in the One of Great Compassion. (3) I take refuge in the Bodhisattva. (4) I take refuge in the Great Being. (5) I take refuge in the Great Compassionate One. (6) Thus it is. (7) Om. (8) The one who wields the vajra, the steadfast, the immovable. (9) Great Lotus. (10) Flow, flow. (11) Establish firmly. (12) Enter into. (13) The invincible, the lion's roar. (14) Hūṃ. (15) Phaṭ. (16) Svāhā. (17)
「大心陀羅尼明曰：
The Great Heart Dharani is called:
「唵(同上)呼(一)鉢頭(同上音)麼(二)振跢麼抳(三)摩訶入嚩(同上音)二合攞(四)虎𤙖二合(五)」

「小心陀羅尼明曰：
The Mantra of the Mindful Heart is as follows:
「唵(同上)呼(一)嚩(同上音)囉娜鉢頭(同上音)謎(二)虎𤙖二合(三)」
Om, hu, ra va ra na pa to me, hūm.
爾時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩說此陀羅尼明時，大地山林六返震動，一切天宮、龍宮、藥叉宮、羅剎宮、乾闥婆宮、阿素落宮、迦樓羅宮、緊那羅宮、摩呼羅伽宮皆大震動。種種諸惡大力鬼神、毘那夜迦、作障礙者皆大戰悚。諸魔宮殿普大火起，是中魔王及魔眷屬生大怖懼。一切鄙惡龍女、神女、鬼女、藥叉女、羅剎女、乾闥婆女、阿素落女、迦樓羅女、緊那羅女、摩呼羅伽女，一時惶怖悶亂躄地。一切地獄皆自門開，是中一切罪報有情皆得解脫，盡生天界受勝安樂。
At that moment, when Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva proclaimed this dhāraṇī mantra, the great earth and the mountain forests shook violently six times. All celestial palaces, dragon palaces, yakṣa palaces, rākṣasa palaces, gandharva palaces, asura palaces, garuḍa palaces, kiṃnara palaces, and mahoraga palaces trembled greatly. All manner of fierce and powerful spirits, vināyakas, and those who create obstacles were seized with great terror. The palaces of all the māras burst into a great blaze, and the māra kings along with their retinues were overwhelmed with immense fear. All vile dragon maidens, goddesses, ghost maidens, yakṣa maidens, rākṣasa maidens, gandharva maidens, asura maidens, garuḍa maidens, kiṃnara maidens, and mahoraga maidens were instantly terrified, confused, and fell prostrate to the ground. All the gates of every hell opened of their own accord, and all the beings suffering retribution for their misdeeds within them were liberated, ascending to the heavenly realms to enjoy supreme peace and bliss.
爾時諸天各持天諸種種殊勝安悉、牛頭栴檀、沈水、末香、塗香、燒香、奇妙天花、眾寶瓔珞、釵璫環釧、寶蓋頭冠、天諸衣服、一切飾具，於虛空中繽紛散雨，供養如來及會大眾。滿虛空際起種種色雲，於其雲中無量天樂不鼓自鳴，出不思議和雅音聲供養如來，見聞聽者住慈忍力。如斯神變皆是觀自在菩薩摩訶薩祕密如意輪陀羅尼呪神力所致。
At that moment, the heavenly beings each held various supreme celestial incense—sandalwood, aloeswood, powdered incense, paste incense, burning incense—as well as wondrous celestial flowers, jeweled necklaces, hairpins, earrings, bracelets, rings, jeweled canopies, crowns, celestial garments, and all kinds of ornaments. They scattered them like rain in the sky, offering them to the Tathāgata and the great assembly.
The entire expanse of the sky filled with clouds of every color, and within those clouds, countless celestial instruments played of their own accord, producing inconceivably harmonious and elegant sounds to make offerings to the Tathāgata. Those who saw, heard, or listened to this were established in the power of compassion and patience.
Such divine manifestations were all brought about by the secret power of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Dhāraṇī Mantra of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, the Great Being.
爾時世尊出迦陵頻伽美妙梵聲，說深妙偈讚觀自在菩薩摩訶薩曰：
Then the World-Honored One, with a voice as beautiful as the kalaviṅka bird, spoke profound verses in praise of the great bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, saying:
「善哉善哉善男子！ 汝能愍念諸有情，
說是如意陀羅尼， 拯濟有情大勝益，
令信受者銷諸罪， 當超三界證菩提，
隨方若有修持者， 世出世願皆圓滿。」
"Excellent, excellent, good man! You, who care for all sentient beings, Speak this wish-fulfilling mantra, Bringing them great benefit and salvation, Enabling believers to dissolve all sins, Transcending the three realms to attain enlightenment. Wherever it is practiced, All worldly and transcendent wishes shall be perfectly fulfilled."
爾時世尊說斯偈已，復告觀自在菩薩摩訶薩言：「善男子！汝當重為一切有情說斯神通陀羅尼呪受持法要，令當有情獲大善利。」
Then, the World-Honored One, having spoken this verse, once again addressed the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokiteśvara, saying: "Good man! You should once more explain to all sentient beings the essential method for receiving and upholding this divine mantra, so that sentient beings may obtain great benefit."
