The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Tanfang Shouzhong was compiled by his dharma heir Jizu and others. It contains the Chan teachings, dialogues, verses, and discourses of the eminent Yuan dynasty monk Tanfang Shouzhong. As a distinguished master of the Linji school active in the mid to late Yuan period, Shouzhong's teachings integrate the essence of the Kanhua (observing the keyword) and Mozhao (silent illumination) Chan traditions. His thought is both profound and grounded, reflecting the Yuan dynasty Chan characteristic of synthesizing various schools. This text serves as an important document for studying the style and philosophy of Linji Chan during the Yuan dynasty, holding significant historical and scholarly value for understanding the development of Chan Buddhism in that period.
