The Commentary on the Vinaya Texts (Recorded by Ei’on) is a Buddhist text composed by the Japanese Vinaya school monk Ei’on during the Edo period. This work systematically compiles annotations and exegeses on the Buddhist Vinaya-piṭaka, primarily exploring monastic precepts, standards of practice, and ritual procedures. Its content is based on the Nanshan Vinaya school of the Tang Dynasty master Daoxuan, interpreted in conjunction with Japanese Buddhist practice. This treatise exerted significant influence on the revival and dissemination of the Japanese Vinaya school and serves as a key text for studying Japanese Buddhist disciplinary thought and practice, holding an important position within the Buddhist Vinaya scholastic system.
