Compiled by Prime Minister Wang Sui of the Northern Song Dynasty in the first year of the Jingyou era (1034), this work is an essential abridgment of the *Jingde Era Record of the Transmission of the Lamp*. Created during the flourishing of Chan Buddhism in the Song Dynasty, it aimed to enable scholar-officials and students to grasp the core of the lamp transmission lineage more efficiently. The content compiles the biographies of Chan patriarchs, their pivotal dialogues, and transmission lineages, with particular emphasis on the Linji and Yunmen schools. Although the original fifteen volumes are largely lost, the surviving fragments serve as important documents for the study of early Chan history and the evolution of the *Jingde Era Record of the Transmission of the Lamp*. They reflect the historical interaction between Chan Buddhism and the scholar-official class during the Song Dynasty, holding significant value in Buddhist historiography as a link between past and future.
