Ben Song was a distinguished monk of the Huayan school during the Song Dynasty, with Cong Zhan composing a commentary on his work. This text provides annotations and verse explanations to the Tang Dynasty master Du Shun’s "Huayan Dharma Realm Contemplation Gate." Centered on the three fundamental contemplations of the Huayan Dharma Realm—contemplation of true emptiness, contemplation of the non-obstruction between principle and phenomena, and contemplation of all-pervasive inclusion—it systematically elucidates the Huayan school’s theory of the four Dharma realms and its philosophy of perfect harmony and non-obstruction. Integrating meditative contemplation with doctrinal principles, the work reveals the Huayan realm of non-obstruction among all phenomena. This book represents a significant document from the Song Dynasty that merges Huayan thought with Chan practice, exerting a profound influence on the later development of the Huayan school and Buddhist philosophy. It stands as a key text for studying the doctrinal teachings and contemplative practices of the Huayan tradition.
