Furthermore, O Holder of Wisdom, when you wish to engage in visualization, first recite the Great Mantra for Purifying the Three Karmas (body, speech, and mind). Once purified, then cultivate a mind of selflessness and contemplate that all phenomena are without a self. Having realized that all things are selfless, align with the true nature of reality and visualize the holy sages. Then, visualize the syllable BHRUM appearing in your heart. When this syllable appears, it transforms into a wheel of wind. Next, visualize this wind wheel, its color like smoke, and on this wheel appears the first syllable [OM]. Visualize this first syllable transforming into the INDRAMANDALA (cosmic diagram). On this mandala, visualize the syllable TI appearing, and this syllable TI becomes the youthful Manjushri. Furthermore, visualize within Manjushri’s heart the syllable AH, which transforms into a sun disc. From this sun disc, a great light shines forth, reaching the boundless realms in the ten directions, illuminating the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and even the Lord of Wisdom in those lands. After shining upon all these realms, the light returns within the sun disc. Thus, visualize that the youthful Manjushri is identical and equal to all the Tathagatas, remaining within the sun disc, radiating a great light that shines for hundreds of thousands of Yojanas.
Also, visualize the syllable HUM, black in color, appearing on the sun disc. This syllable is encircled by five-colored rays of light. Then, visualize within that light the syllable HUM transforming into a great vajra-staff (vajrakilti), black in color and of great radiance. Next, visualize that this vajra gives birth to all the Tathagatas and Wisdom Kings, as numerous as sesame seeds, filling the sky. They are all adorned with excellent marks and surrounded by light. Visualize that these Tathagatas each lead sentient beings to attain perfect enlightenment. After leading beings to liberation, they return to the vajra again. Then, visualize that from the vajra emerges the great Vajrabhairava (The Terrifying Vajra). He has nine faces. The first, principal face is like that of BUFFALO, a great black color. On the right cheek, there are three faces: the central one blue, the right one red, and the left one yellow, all in wrathful expressions. On the left cheek, there are also three faces: the central one white, the right one smoke-colored, and the left one black, all wrathful. Between the two cheeks is the eighth face, a great red wrathful expression. Above these is the ninth face, the wrathful youth, yellow in color, with five topknots, adorned like a prince. All nine faces have three eyes, displaying terrifying or laughing expressions, with tongues protruding outwards, eyebrows furrowed. He is naked, with a large belly, hair standing on end, wearing an elephant hide and adorned with human skulls. He has thirty-four arms. The right hands hold: 1) a sword, 2) a cat’s eye gem, 3) a pestle, 4) a curved blade, 5) a hatchet, 6) an axe, 7) an iron club, 8) a human head, 9) a hook, 10) a jeweled staff, 11) a ritual dagger, 12) a wheel, 13) a vajra, 14) a vajra-headed mace, 15) a sword, 16) a drum. The left hands hold: 1) a skull cup, 2) a human head, 3) an entangling net, 4) a human leg, 5) a snare, 6) a bow, 7) a spear, 8) a bell, 9) a human hand, 10) a burial shroud, 11) a human skeleton, 12) a furnace, 13) a charnel ground bowl, 14) the threatening gesture (tarjani), 15) a banner, 16) a sail. Two of his hands hold the elephant hide. He has sixteen legs. The eight right legs tread upon: 1) a human, 2) a water buffalo, 3) a yellow ox, 4) a donkey, 5) a camel, 6) a dog, 7) a goat, 8) a fox. The eight left legs tread upon: 1) a vulture, 2) a badger, 3) a raven, 4) a lion, 5) a tiger, 6) a jackal, 7) a great vulture, 8) a crane. His body blazes with fiery flames, as intense as the fire at the end of a cosmic cycle, radiating immense power. His shout of HRIH PHEH is like a thunderclap, causing even gods and humans to see and hear him with great terror. This Vajrabhairava not only feasts on the flesh, blood, marrow, and brains of humans but also desires to devour all the gods of the three realms. When a Wisdom-Holder performs this visualization, they should be in a quiet place, free from distractions, with right mindfulness and single-pointed concentration. Aligning with the true nature of reality, they visualize the holy sage. Once the sage appears before them, they identify: "This holy body is my own body." Having thus realized this body, they dwell in a state of fearlessness. Then, visualize that within your heart appears a sun disc. On this sun disc, visualize the Great Mantra Syllable (HUM). When this syllable appears, it radiates light in all directions. When a Wisdom-Holder has achieved success in this visualization, they may then begin to recite the mantra. While reciting, they should always partake of the five nectars (amrita) and divine offerings. Recite the Root Long Mantra (HUM) for a total of 300,000 times. Once this count is complete, they may then proceed to practice the rituals for accomplishing miracles. If the practice is carried out without error, success will be attained in all endeavors.
