The Buddha taught the "Sutra of the Mantra of the Spirit Aṭavaka of the Wilderness" to relieve sentient beings from suffering and all ailments. At that time, the spirit then spoke the mantra:
"World-Honored One! This mantra verse brings peace and security to the fourfold assembly, freeing them from all distress and afflictions. When faced with malevolent spirits, evil ghosts, thieves, floods, fires, fierce winds, demonic beings, fevers, chills, wind-related illnesses, imbalances of bodily elements, household decline, unfavorable circumstances, or sudden attacks by wild beasts, if one urgently recites this mantra, all such troubles will be resolved. Now, I shall once again recite the mantra:
"Now, we offer protection for [Name(s)] in all their endeavors. If there are spirits that consume a person's vital energy, or those that harm a person's possessions or deplete their wealth—all such fears and dangers—we invoke boundless protection for [Name(s)]." Then, the mantra is spoken:
Flow, flow, flow, flow, illuminate, illuminate, illuminate, illuminate, Dispel, dispel, dispel, dispel, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, Depart, depart, depart, depart, cease, cease, cease, cease, Illuminate, illuminate, illuminate, illuminate, Darkness, darkness, darkness, darkness, dark illumination, dark illumination, dark illumination, dark illumination, Cease, cease, cease, cease, cease, cease, cease, cease, Vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, Extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, extinguish, Great Earth, vanish, roar, so be it.
