Preface to the Abridged Commentary on the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment
吳門傳教臨壇賜紫明義大師思齊述

修身者何？戒律而已矣。融心者何？圓覺而已矣。始嚴戒律，終顯圓覺，并是二者。予猥受於先淨慧大師(其諱善政)門焉，姑以所聞從事，兼講指歸。途於晚歲，樂圓覺為要說。其祖演章句，即圭峯定慧禪師略疏二卷，略鈔六卷。疏以通經，鈔以通疏，探𧷤而索隱，辭簡而義博，則備之。
裴相國序。道固師是，流至于今，今之駕說者，莫不以茲鈔為司南乎？思齊懵昧，幸敷斯教，當懼聖言紛於水鶴，切慮傳者駮於魯魚，因與武林法師仲希，諮度眾本，訪對輿典，循尊古卑今之致，竊及史闕文之旨，約定元鈔，將事刊勒。門人子章，力模方板，僶俛揮振，庸詎是非？非也，不削則削；是也，乃本其本。後將斯文而覺世者，無以不繼志而罪我乎？如志我者，則庶幾乎？
The collection remains true to its teachings and has been passed down through the ages. Today, those who expound upon it all rely on this commentary as their guide. I, Siqi, a person of limited understanding, am fortunate to have studied this teaching. I exercise caution, fearing that the sacred words might become confused like herons in water, and worry that the transmitters might make errors of miscopied characters. Therefore, together with the monk Zhongxi from Wulin, I have consulted various editions, examined authoritative texts, and followed a balanced approach that respects both the wisdom of the ancients and the standards of the present. Borrowing from the principle of preserving historical texts where details are missing, I have organized the original commentary and prepared it for publication. My disciple Zizhang has tirelessly carved the printing blocks, working with dedication, though who can say if his efforts are without error? If there are mistakes, they will be corrected; if they are correct, they will serve as the true foundation. In the future, those who use this text to enlighten the world should not blame me for failing to carry on the tradition. But if they truly understand my intentions, then perhaps my work has been worthwhile.
如來圓覺，耀無窮矣。圭峯章句，導無極矣。
時皇宋康定二年辛巳歲杓建鶉咮月望日謹序
