Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Jingci Huihui
This text comprises the teachings of the Song Dynasty Caodong school master Jingci Huihui, compiled by his disciples Mingzong and Liaoguang, among others. Compiled during the Southern Song period, it records Master Huihui's discourses, pointed dialogues, poetic verses, and essential principles of Chan practice, centrally embodying the distinctive features and profound essence of the Caodong school's Silent Illumination (Mozhao) Chan. As a significant Chan document of the Song Dynasty, this record not only transmits the core teachings of the lineage descending from Dongshan Liangjia, but also vividly presents the actual dynamics of dialogical exchanges and instruction within the Song-era Chan community. It holds considerable value for the study of the development of Caodong thought and the genre of Chan recorded sayings, and is regarded as an important text for both Chan cultivation and scholarly research.
