Three Periods of Mindfulness Practice Manual

Blessing Water

A single drop of dew can purify the six senses; Where the brush tip touches, life returns once more.

Sprinkle this Dharma feast, and all becomes pure; The holy ones of the Western Land are gathered like clouds.

Water has its source in springs, nurturing all things through its moisture. It brings rain and dew, blessing countless beings. It forms rivers and seas, benefiting all life. Morning sees it drifting through misty landscapes, evening finds it reflecting the starry sky. Ripples spread across Xiangpu, waves roll over Yuexi. In ancient times Xu You washed his ears by the stream, pursuing purity; long ago a child rinsed his cap in the current, valuing its clarity. The flowing river moved Confucius to lament; water filling every hollow inspired Mencius's teaching. Now, having personally received it from the Eight Virtues Pond, and first drawn it from the Seven Treasures Vase, it is consecrated with sacred words and transformed into Dharma water.

(Recite the Great Compassion Mantra while sprinkling water for purification, and recite the verse)

The great being's spiritual powers cannot be spoken, Seated on a red lotus in the heart of the sea. Pray, let the Bodhisattva's water from the branch Wash away sentient beings' karmic wrongs and feuds.
