Republic of China · by 王亨彥撰

The "New Gazetteer of Putuo Luojia," compiled by Wang Hengyan during the Republic of China period, is an important local chronicle of the Buddhist sacred site of Mount Putuo in Zhejiang. Based on earlier Ming and Qing dynasty gazetteers, this work expands and revises their contents, systematically documenting Mount Putuo's natural geography, the evolution of its temples, the deeds of eminent monks, cultural relics, historical anecdotes, and Buddhist activities. As a comprehensive compilation of Mount Putuo's Buddhist history, it serves not only as a key document for studying the transmission of the Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara) practice center but also as a significant historical source for understanding the development of modern Chinese Buddhism. It holds profound influence for research on Buddhist mountain culture and local chronicles.
