The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Dabianguan is a compilation of teachings by the eminent Qing dynasty Chan master Xianquan, edited and recorded by his disciple Haicheng. This discourse record emerged during the mature period of Chan monastic institutions in the early Qing dynasty, reflecting the practice ethos and transmission of thought within the Chan community of that time. Its content encompasses Master Xianquan's incisive instructions on the essential methods of meditation, insights into the nature of mind, and daily cultivation. The language points directly to the human heart, blending the style of the Linji school with practical guidance. As an important Chan text of the Qing dynasty, this discourse record not only preserves the authentic teaching dialogues of a Chan master of that era but also provides later practitioners with a practical path to engage with the Dharma. Within the system of Chinese Buddhist discourse records, it holds academic value in connecting past and future, as well as serving as a reference for cultivation.
