The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Mingjue Cong is a collection of the teachings of the eminent Qing Dynasty Chan master Xingcong, compiled by his disciples Jikong, Fangxing, and others. Master Xingcong was active in the early Qing period and belonged to the Linji lineage. His recorded sayings emerged from a context where the Chan tradition was both inheriting its legacy and adapting to the times. This work includes his discourses, Dharma teachings, dialogues of encounter, and poetic verses, focusing on elucidating the Chan doctrine of mind-nature, the sudden enlightenment approach, and daily practice. It emphasizes realizing one's true nature and pointing directly to the human mind. As an important Chan text of the Qing Dynasty, it serves not only as a precious historical resource for studying Xingcong's thought and the Chan style of the early Qing, but also holds enduring significance in guiding later students to understand the Linji Chan method, bridging past and future within Buddhist scriptures.
