> Waguan Temple

> In the southwest corner of the prefectural city, during the second year of the Xingning era of the Jin dynasty, the pottery works were moved to the north bank of the Huai River, and so a temple was built on the pottery grounds on the south bank, which is why it was called Waguan. Inside there was jade presented by the Kingdom of Simhala, a Buddha image handcrafted by Dai Andao, and a Vimalakirti painting by Gu Changkang—known through the ages as the Three Excellences. In the Shengyuan era of the Southern Tang, it was renamed Shengyuan Temple, and the pavilion was named accordingly. In the Jiajing era of the Ming dynasty, it was renamed Ancient Waguan Temple, and a pavilion called Qinglian was built.
