Chapter 14: King Atthadassi
一
One
同於曼陀劫,有阿陀達西(義見)為人〔中〕牛〔王〕,攘除大黑闇成就最上菩提。
In the same Mandala Kalpa, there was a being named Atadaxi (meaning "Ox King among Humans") who dispelled the great darkness and attained supreme enlightenment.
二
依梵天之請,轉大法輪,以甘露饗與十千之〔人〕天世界。
At the request of Brahma, the Buddha turned the great Wheel of Dharma, offering the nectar of the teachings to the ten thousand beings of the human and heavenly realms.
三
Three
於此世界之依怙,此亦有三次〔法〕領會,於第一會領會〔法〕者,有一兆之數。
In this world, there is a refuge. This refuge is understood through three gatherings of the Dharma. In the first gathering, those who comprehend the Dharma number one trillion.
四
Four
阿陀達西佛之遊行天人界時,於第二會領會〔法〕者,有一兆之數。
When the Buddha Atthadassi journeyed among the heavenly realms, at the second gathering, those who comprehended the Dharma numbered one trillion.
五
Five
次又佛於父之前說〔法〕時,於此第三會領會〔法〕者,又有一兆之數。
Then, when the Buddha again taught the Dharma before his father, at this third assembly, those who understood the teaching numbered another trillion.
六
Six
此大仙亦已盡諸漏,離垢穢,心歸寂靜,如是諸人之集會此有三次。
This great sage has also ended all defilements, free from impurities, with a mind returned to stillness. Such gatherings of people have occurred here three times.
七
Seven
第一會座有九萬八千人,第二會座,有八萬八千人。
The first assembly had ninety-eight thousand people, the second assembly had eighty-eight thousand people.
八
Eight.
第三會座則集合三萬八千之無取著、得脫、離垢之大仙等。
The third assembly gathered thirty-eight thousand great sages who were free from attachment, liberated, and purified of defilements.
九
Nine.
予其時為熱烈苦行之結髮行者,其名為須西摩,被認於地上第一。
At that time, there was an ascetic with matted hair who practiced intense austerities. His name was Susīma, and he was recognized as the foremost in the world.

Ten
天上之曼陀羅華、波頭摩〔華〕、波利質多羅(晝度)〔華〕由天上世界採來供捧正覺者。
Heavenly mandarava flowers, paduma flowers, and paricchattaka flowers were gathered from the celestial realms and offered to the Fully Awakened One.
一一
One.
此佛大牟尼阿陀達西為予豫言:「由此千八百劫,此者將成佛。
This great sage Buddha, Atadaxi, prophesied to me: "After eighteen hundred kalpas, this one will become a Buddha."
一二
One, two.
勤應勤……乃至言〔第四之一三〕……將面彼佛。」
Diligently practice... up to the words... 'You will face that Buddha.'
一三
One, three.
聞此佛之語亦欣悅,心感激,為成就十波羅蜜,決意更〔行〕苦行。
Hearing the Buddha's words, they too were filled with joy and gratitude. Resolved to perfect the ten perfections, they determined to undertake even greater austerities.
一四
都城名為須婆那(嚴飾)。阿陀達西〔大〕師之〔父〕名沙迦羅〔海〕為剎帝利族,母名須達娑那〔善現〕。
The capital was called Subhāna (Adorned). The great teacher Atthadassī's father was named Sāgara (Ocean), of the Kshatriya caste, and his mother was named Sudassanā (Fair to See).
一五
彼營在家之生活一萬年,有阿摩羅吉利(無魔山)、須羅吉利(天山)、吉利瓦哈那(山窟)三所優美之宮殿。
In his household life of ten thousand years, he possessed three beautiful palaces: Amaragiri (the Immortal Mountain), Surāgiri (the Heavenly Mountain), and Girivāhana (the Mountain Abode).

有三萬三千善飾之婦女,其夫人名為威娑迦,彼之實子名為闍那。
There were thirty-three thousand well-adorned women, among them a lady named Visākhā, whose true son was named Jāna.
一七
One in seven.
見四種之相後,騎馬出行,滿八個月之間,勝者勤應所勤。
After witnessing the four signs, he mounted his horse and set out. For eight full months, the Victorious One diligently practiced what should be practiced.

One eight
依梵天之請,大名聲之阿陀達西大雄〔尊〕,人〔中〕牛〔王〕在於阿諾摩(非卑)園轉大〔法〕輪。
At the request of Brahma, the Great Hero, renowned as Atadashi, the Bull Among Men, turned the Wheel of Dharma in the Anoma Garden.
一九
山陀(息)與烏婆山陀(安息)為阿陀達西師之上首弟子,名阿婆耶(無畏)為侍者。
Santā (Calm) and Upasantā (Tranquil) were the chief disciples of Atadāsi, with Ābhaya (Fearless) serving as their attendant.
二〇
Two Thousand and Twenty
達摩(法)與須達摩(善法)為彼之上首女弟子,此世尊之菩提樹稱為闡婆迦。
Dharma and Sudharma were the foremost among his female disciples. The Bodhi tree of this Blessed One is called the Champaka.

Twenty-one
那屈羅與尼沙婆(人主)為上位之常侍信士,摩奇羅與須難陀(善喜)為上位之常侍信女。
Nakula and Nisabha were the chief male lay disciples, while Migara and Sunanda were the chief female lay disciples.
二二
Two by two
此無等等之佛,身量亦有八十肘,如沙羅樹王之光輝,如烏魯羅伽(竹王)之豐滿。
This Buddha, peerless and unequaled, has a body measuring eighty cubits in height. His radiance is like that of a towering sal tree, and his majestic form is as full and splendid as the bamboo king, Ururaga.
二三
Two or three
彼自然之身光有數十億,時時照耀上下十方由旬之間。
The natural radiance of that body shines with billions of lights, illuminating the ten directions above and below for countless leagues at every moment.
二四
Twenty-four
此佛,人〔中〕牛〔王〕,所有生類中之最優者、有眼者、牟尼〔尊〕在世生存十萬年。
This Buddha, the Bull Among Men, the foremost of all living beings, the One with Eyes, the Sage, dwelled in the world for a hundred thousand years.
二五
Two and five.
與無雙光明照耀人天世界,如火燃薪盡,達於無常!
Together with the peerless radiance that illuminates the realms of humans and gods, like a fire that consumes its fuel, they reach the truth of impermanence!
二六
Two times six
優越勝者阿陀達西〔佛〕於阿諾摩園入涅槃,此處、彼處、隨處分配舍利。
阿陀達西世尊之種姓第十四 終
The Fourteenth Chapter on the Family Lineage of the World-Honored One, Atadasi, is concluded.
