The Record of Fellow Disciples of Master Bie'an, compiled by the eminent Linji School monk Xingtong of the Qing Dynasty with assistance from Hongxiu, was completed in the early Qing period. Its purpose was to collect the recorded sayings, dialogues, and encounter dialogues of Master Bie'an of the Tiantong lineage within the Chinese Buddhist Linji School, along with his dharma descendants and fellow practitioners. The content primarily includes meditation instructions between masters and disciples, transmissions of dharma succession, and essential teachings. It serves as an important document for researching the lineage transmission and Chan style of the Linji School in the early Qing Dynasty. 別翁和尚，聚雲之曾孫，高峰之嫡嗣。丙寅歲，飛錫南來，掃祖塔於徑山，據師位於普陀，由是南方之人始知徑山一派猶盛於西蜀也。和尚年甫而立，而全錄已有若干卷矣。句句破諸見之稠林，字字開人天之眼目，真可謂大慧再來也。辛未冬，又集《同門錄》三卷，壽諸棗梨。其諸禪師語句，各各從胸襟流出，蓋天蓋地；其諸居士機緣，各各從實悟吐來，不讓老龐。是所傳之人皆賢，則祖道因之而盛也。自此聚雲一燈又將漸傳於天下矣。夫徑山、虎丘，同門兄弟也，共揚臨濟之道於前，而兩派之兒孫共揚臨濟之道於後，則凡睹茲《同門錄》者，必為高峰慶也，必為慶忠慶也，必為聚雲慶也，必為徑山慶也，必為臨濟慶也。目余嘗閱《慶忠集》，有云：「昔天童和尚覽及聚雲和尚語錄，欣然謂眾曰：『西蜀有異人也。』」足以見密祖弘道之心至公無私也。

Elder Bie Weng was a dharma grandson of Master Juyun and the direct heir of Master Gaofeng. In the year Bingyin, he traveled south with his pilgrim's staff, paying homage to the ancestral pagoda at Jingshan and taking the abbot's seat at Putuo. From that point on, people in the south came to realize that the Jingshan lineage still flourished in Western Sichuan. Though the master was barely thirty years old, his complete recorded teachings already spanned several volumes. Each sentence cut through the tangled thicket of biased views; each word opened the eyes of both gods and humans. Truly, he could be called a reincarnation of Dahui.

In the winter of the Xinwei year, he compiled three volumes of *The Same-Gate Record*, burning them onto printing blocks. The sayings of the various Chan masters flowed directly from their heart-minds, covering heaven and earth. The karmic encounters of the lay practitioners emerged from authentic awakening, rivaling the elder Pang. Because those who transmitted this Dharma were all worthy heirs, the ancestral way flourished as a result. From then on, the single lamp of Juyun would gradually spread across the world.

Master Jingshan and Master Huqiu were dharma brothers of the same gate, who together had raised high the teachings of Linji in times past. Now, their spiritual descendants of both traditions carry forward the Linji way in later ages. Therefore, all who behold this *Same-Gate Record* should celebrate for Master Gaofeng, celebrate for Master Qingzhong, celebrate for Master Juyun, celebrate for Jingshan, and celebrate for the Linji school.

I once read in the *Qingzhong Collection* that "When the ancient master Tiantong once read Master Juyun's recorded sayings, he joyfully told the community: 'There is an extraordinary person in Western Sichuan.'" This reveals how Master Mizu's spirit in propagating the Way was utterly impartial and selfless.
