### 復何二山居士

> "To the Layman of Two Mountains"

> Last autumn, Xuan Ci received your letter and learned that you are sincere in your pursuit of the Way, with no lingering worldly attachments. This clearly shows that you, as a lay practitioner, have cultivated your spiritual roots over many lifetimes and share a profound connection with the wisdom of Prajna. However, fundamentally speaking, our school holds nothing extraordinary or mysterious—no fixed truths to chew over, analyze, or turn into intellectual nests. What truly matters is that the student experiences that single shout, "Huah!" As Zhao Qingxian once said: "Sitting silently in the hall of justice, the mind still as water; Suddenly, a thunderclap bursts open the crown of the head, Awakening the original self that had always been there." This is the true example. If a practitioner fails to reach that one "Huah," they will inevitably keep flipping somersaults in the maze of intellectual understanding and doctrinal paths—endless entanglements, with no end in sight. The mountains are far, the rivers long, and we cannot meet face to face. I write this in reply; words cannot express my full thoughts.
