> Dragon Abode Ritual of Great Compassion Repentance Text<note place="inline">Ren Shen Year</note>

> I take refuge in the One of Supreme and Awesome Virtue, The courageous Lion among Teachers, With unparalleled strength and fearlessness, The Greatly Compassionate Savior of the world. I take refuge in the Lamp that Illuminates the World, The true and essential Dharma, Revealing both exoteric and esoteric, beyond thought, The One who tears apart the net of craving and false views. I take refuge in the Father of All Beings, The Incomparable One of Boundless Compassion, Who, while bearing the fruit, shows the path of practice, Abiding in the realm beyond comprehension. I take refuge in the Subduer of Demons and Heretics, The Wrathful Great Bright King, Whose true and supreme compassion Tames even the hardest to tame. Now I make this great vow, To cut off evil and cultivate goodness, And with four sticks of incense upon my head, I offer this sincere prayer from the depths of my heart.

> I, the disciple Zhixu, reflect deeply on my heavy karmic obstacles and countless transgressions. My delusions run deep, and my accumulated karma is vast. Even before taking refuge in the Dharma, I slandered the teachings without end. And though I have since entered the path, I remain entangled in boundless faults and errors. I hold the four great vows in my heart, aspiring to match the sages of old. Yet in body and speech, I constantly fall short of the noble ones. My inner resolve is weak, and outer distractions are many. In this world, the howls of wild beasts fill the earth, and flocks of sheep wander everywhere. It is not just that milk mixed with water brings sickness to those who drink it—it is that poison served as food takes the lives of those who taste it. Therefore, with a heart full of pain and a mind in anguish, I earnestly beseech the Compassionate One. For this period of practice, I will devote myself to purification over three times seven days. I pray that all who are spiritually blind may swiftly perfect their merit and wisdom. May the true teaching of the Tathagata not be harmed. May the precious banner of liberation not be toppled. I pray that my fellow practitioners, as well as the donors, protectors, and all who see or hear this, may each hold deep resolve and together advance on the profound path. May our nature and our actions be purified, and may our precepts be upheld without flaw. May we awaken to the true source beyond contention and relinquish even the subtlest attachments to Dharma. May we roar like lions, extinguishing foolish debates. Further, I pray that all beings present, and all sentient beings everywhere, may have their needs for livelihood and conditions for practice fulfilled according to their wishes. May the three poisons be transformed into the three liberations. May the six realms be turned into the six spiritual powers. May we behold the Pure Land before our eyes and realize enlightenment in this very moment. May our nature and cultivation be one, embracing all methods of practice. May principle and phenomena merge, giving rise to boundless Dharma teachings. May we seal ourselves with Amitabha’s vow and fulfill the compassionate heart of freedom.
