### 十周願文六月初一日

> Ten Great Vows

稽首釋迦大聖尊，十方克盡人倫者。真實至孝真實忠，真實禮誼真師友。所說究竟真實法，真實如法修行僧。我今哀請垂護持，願賜慈悲同作證。

> I bow to Shakyamuni, the Great Sage, And to those who fulfilled human virtues throughout the ten directions. True filial piety, true loyalty, True courtesy, true teachers and friends. I bow to the ultimate true Dharma they taught, And the Sangha who truly practice as taught. Now with humble heart I earnestly beseech your protection, And pray you witness this with compassionate blessings.

智旭生逢末世，福慧並微。蒙二親獨養深恩，罔知攸荅。始則違親教命，造謗佛誹法重愆。既而稍解真乘，棄生事死葬俗典，雖欲剋期取果，頓捨家緣，實乃夙障偏多，久滯凡地。追初志而涕泗慚惶，念未來而痛心酸鼻。世出世法，均資未得，生後世報，嬰苦無疑。由是自持經咒列經三千卷，咒二千萬，佛名號一萬，俱不錄，然香三炷，匯諸善友所持經咒列比丘沙彌優婆塞三十八人，共持諸經律四千八百零七部，背經論各一部，偈一百萬，諸咒品二百二十萬零三千五百九十六，又持一字大輪真言七日，佛菩薩名七百一十五萬，禮佛三萬拜，俱不錄，以此薦父鍾之鳳、母金大蓮，伏願決生淨土，速證無生，蒙授記於十方，度含靈於五濁。又香三炷，轉為緇素善友，乞恩三寶。伏願比丘某，痛念正法之衰。某克證真實之法，某等列名者四人，圓修定慧之業。沙彌某某，發深固志，成忍辱力。某等列名者四人，戒德日懋，慧性開朗。優婆塞某，離諸障緣，成就二利。某某，了悟塵緣，增長信力，捨惡住善，堅固菩提。又願智旭，病消障淨，所有誓願，無不圓成；所有著述，允可佛意；所有佛事，速辦無難；所有開化，悉皆領悟。興釋迦正法於支那，作彌陀輔弼於樂土。紹地藏家業，入普賢行門。以勢至念佛三昧，自度度他；以迦葉結集深心，護法護眾。俾邪魔外道，遁影藏蹤，使教戒禪那，日昭月朗。恭唯三寶垂慈，滿菩提願。

> Zhixu was born in an age of decline, with meager blessings and wisdom. Though deeply indebted to my parents’ kindness in raising me alone, I knew not how to repay them. At first, I defied my parents’ teachings and committed grave offenses of slandering the Buddha and Dharma. Later, I came to a slight understanding of the true vehicle, abandoning worldly customs regarding livelihood, death, and burial. Though I wished to quickly achieve results and immediately renounce worldly concerns, I was actually hindered by many past obstructions, remaining long stuck in ordinary existence. Recalling my initial aspirations, I weep in shame and fear; thinking of the future, my heart aches and my nose stings. Having gained neither worldly nor transcendent accomplishments, I will surely experience suffering in future lives. Therefore, I have personally recited sutras and mantras <note place="inline">(sutras: 3,000 volumes; mantras: 20 million; Buddha names: 10,000 — not listed)</note>, burned three sticks of incense, and gathered the sutras and mantras recited by virtuous friends <note place="inline">(monks, novices, and laymen: 38 people total; together they recited: sutras and vinaya texts: 4,807 volumes; memorized sutras and treatises: 2 each; verses: 1 million; various mantra practices: 2,203,596; also recited the One-Syllable Great Wheel Mantra for seven days; Buddha and Bodhisattva names: 7.15 million; bowed to Buddhas 30,000 times — not listed)</note>. With this merit, I dedicate it to my father, Zhong Zhifeng, and my mother, Jin Dalian. I humbly pray they be reborn in the Pure Land, quickly realize no-birth, receive prophecies from the Buddhas in the ten directions, and save all sentient beings in the five turbidities. I also burn three sticks of incense, turning the merit toward monastic and lay virtuous friends, seeking the grace of the Three Jewels. I humbly pray: - That the monks feel deeply the decline of the true Dharma. - That someone attains realization of the true Dharma. - That certain persons <note place="inline">(four named individuals)</note> complete their cultivation of samadhi and wisdom. - That the novices develop deep and steadfast resolve and attain the power of patience. - That certain others <note place="inline">(four named individuals)</note> have their precept virtue increasingly flourish and their wisdom nature open and bright. - That a certain layman remove all obstacles and conditions, perfecting benefit for self and others. - That certain others <note place="inline">(names listed)</note> thoroughly understand worldly conditions, increase faith, abandon evil and dwell in goodness, strengthening their bodhi mind. - Furthermore, I pray that Zhixu’s illnesses disappear and hindrances be purified; that all my vows be perfectly fulfilled; that all my writings accord with the Buddha’s intent; that all my Dharma activities be swiftly accomplished without difficulty; that all those I guide and transform fully understand. May I revitalize Shakyamuni’s true Dharma in China, become an assistant to Amitabha in the Pure Land, continue Earth Store’s family tradition, and enter Samantabhadra’s conduct. May I, with Mahasthamaprapta’s mindfulness of the Buddha, save myself and others; with Kashyapa’s deep commitment to compiling the scriptures, protect the Dharma and the assembly. May I cause heretics and evil paths to vanish without a trace, and cause the teachings, precepts, and Chan to shine ever brighter like the sun and moon. I reverently and humbly pray that the Three Jewels, with compassionate regard, fulfill these bodhi vows.
