Jingzhen lived at the Jishan Temple in Chang'an. He wore patched robes and lived on alms, never harboring anger throughout his life. He recited the Diamond Sutra one hundred thousand times and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the practice of Buddha-remembrance.
In the fifth year of the Xianqing era, he fell ill and told his disciples, "Within the past five months, I have seen Amitabha Buddha ten times and the Land of Ultimate Bliss twice, with children playing on jeweled lotus flowers. Moreover, a holy monk has given me predictions five times, saying, 'You shall become a Buddha,' and also, 'I shall attain rebirth in the highest grade.'"
He then passed away seated in meditation. After a night, he revived and said to his disciples, "I have attained the stage of a bodhisattva. I have traveled throughout the ten directions, making offerings to all Buddhas." After speaking these words, he passed away, and a radiant light illuminated the temple.
