> Chapter 1: The Discourse on Desire

> Seven hundred sixty-six.

欲求欲對象 若彼已有成人得所欲者 確然彼心喜

> When one desires an object, And that desire is fulfilled, The person who obtains what they want, Truly, their heart rejoices.

> Seven hundred and sixty-seven.

若人有此欲 生起此欲者彼諸欲失滅 煩惱如中箭

> If a person has such desires, and these desires arise within them, those desires will fade away, and their afflictions will be like an arrow piercing the heart.

> Seven hundred sixty-eight.

迴避諸欲者 如避蛇頭足世間之愛著 有念正超越

> One who avoids all desires is like one who avoids a snake's head and feet. The world's attachments and cravings, with mindfulness, one rightly transcends.

黃金田器具 傭僕與牛馬若有追求者 婦女親欲多

> Fields of golden grain, tools and vessels, Servants, oxen, and horses— All these, if one seeks them, Bring more wives and kin, more desires.

彼無力戰勝 彼被危難破如是彼隨苦 如破舟進水

> He who lacks the strength to conquer, He who is broken by danger and distress, Thus he is swept away by suffering, Like a broken boat taking on water.

故人常有念 諸欲應迴避如船除積水 到達彼岸者彼等捨諸欲 斷欲渡瀑流

> Thus, a wise person should always remember to turn away from desires, Like a boat that bails out water to reach the far shore. Those who abandon desires, cut off craving, cross the torrential stream.
