The Saṃyutta Nikāya, also translated as the Connected Discourses, is one of the five collections of the Sutta Piṭaka within the Pāli Canon of Theravāda Buddhism. This text was translated into Chinese by Ven. Tong Miao. Its contents originate from the teachings of the Buddha and his disciples in ancient India, compiled during the First Buddhist Council, making it one of the earliest collected scriptures of Buddhism. The entire work is arranged thematically into connected sections, divided into chapters such as Verses, Causation, Aggregates, Sense Bases, and Elements. It records in detail the Buddha's expositions on core doctrines such as the Four Noble Truths, Dependent Origination, the Five Aggregates, and meditation. The Saṃyutta Nikāya is regarded as the authoritative text closest to the Buddha's original teachings, serving as the fundamental basis for studying early Buddhist thought and holding a supreme position among Buddhist scriptures.
