The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Foyu, an important Chan Buddhist discourse text from the Qing Dynasty, contains the teachings of Master Cheyu, compiled by his disciples Fajie and Faxiu, with a preface by Shengke. Completed in the early Qing period, this work reflects the development and transmission of the Linji school of Chan Buddhism at that time. It primarily records Master Cheyu’s Dharma talks, public instructions, pointed dialogues, and guidance on spiritual practice. The content elucidates the theory of mind-nature and practical methods of Chan Buddhism with both depth and clarity. Holding a pivotal position in Buddhist history, it serves as a significant document for studying early Qing Chan trends and Linji school thought, offering enduring value as guidance for later generations of Chan practitioners.
