Four Invocations to the Three Jewels and Celestial Beings
(運心供養已。互跪燒香。當念三寶。雖離障清淨。而以同體慈悲。護念群品。若能三業致請。必不來而來。苦與樂。七佛經云。世尊入甚深妙定。彼七世尊。各從其國。來至索訶世界。由其本願力故。各各自於寶師子座。隨處安坐。故今逐位慇懃三請。必有感降)。
After offering with a focused mind, kneel with one knee and burn incense. Reflect on the Three Jewels: although they are pure and free from obstructions, they extend compassion as if one with all beings, caring for and guiding the multitude. If one sincerely invites them with body, speech, and mind, they will come even when they seem not to—relieving suffering and bestowing joy. As the *Sutra of the Seven Buddhas* states: "The World-Honored One entered a profound and wondrous meditation. Then each of the seven World-Honored Ones, from their own lands, arrived in the Saha world. By the power of their original vows, each took their seat upon a jeweled lion throne, settling wherever appropriate." Therefore, now, for each position, earnestly invite three times—there will surely be a response and descent.
- 一心奉請。南無本師釋迦牟尼世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方淨瑠璃世界教主。藥師瑠璃光世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方無勝世界。善名稱吉祥王世尊。
(此四殑河沙界外佛。以至九殑河沙外六佛。依七佛經。葢與今藥師。並立誓願。攝受我者。故須請禮)。
Beyond the four Ganges sands of worlds, there are Buddhas, and even beyond the nine Ganges sands, there are six Buddhas. According to the *Seven Buddhas Sutra*, these Buddhas, together with the present Medicine Buddha, all established vows to embrace and protect us. Therefore, we should respectfully invite and pay homage to them.
- 一心奉請。南無東方妙寶世界。寶月智嚴光音自在王世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方圓滿香積世界。金色寶光妙行成就世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方無憂世界。無憂最勝吉祥世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方法幢世界。法海雷音世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無東方善住寶海世界。法海勝慧游戲神通世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無十方一切諸佛世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無賢劫千佛。三世一切諸佛世尊。
- 一心奉請。南無藥師瑠璃光如來本願功德。正法寶藏。
- 一心奉請。南無光中演說。除滅一切眾生苦惱大陀羅尼。
- 一心奉請。南無五時法海十二部經。及十方三世一切尊法。
- 一心奉請。南無淨瑠璃世界。日光徧照菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無淨瑠璃世界。月光徧照菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無淨瑠璃世界。無量無數菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無曼殊室利法王子菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無觀世音菩薩。得大勢菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無無盡意菩薩。寶檀華菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無藥王菩薩。藥上菩薩彌勒菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無救脫菩薩。執金剛菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無十方三世一切菩薩摩訶薩。
- 一心奉請。南無摩訶迦葉尊者。阿難尊者。及一切大聲聞緣覺賢聖僧。
- 一心奉請。宮毗羅等十二藥叉神將。各及七千眷屬。梵釋四王。天龍八部。人非人等。洎此國內。名山大川一切靈廟。州地分。屬內鬼神。此所住處。護伽藍神。一切聖眾。
(如是次第一徧奉請竟。即五輪著地。復更互跪。燒香散華。次第稱名奉請。如是三徧。首者述奉請意)。
Having completed the first round of invitations in this manner, with the five parts of the body touching the ground, they then kneel alternately, burn incense, scatter flowers, and in sequence call out the names to extend the invitations. This is done three times, after which the leader expresses the intention behind the invitations.
唯願。藥師教主。日光月光二補處尊。不違本誓。大慈大悲。他心道眼。無礙見聞。身通自在。來降道場。安住法位。光明徧照。攝取我等。哀憐覆護。令得成就。菩提行願。
We sincerely pray: O Master of Medicine, O Sunlight and Moonlight, the two Bodhisattvas who will succeed the Buddha. Please, do not turn away from your original vows. With great compassion and loving-kindness, with the wisdom that sees into the hearts of others and the unobstructed vision that perceives all, with the freedom of miraculous powers, come down to this place of practice. Dwell here in the Dharma seat. Let your light shine everywhere, embracing and gathering us. Have pity, shelter, and protect us, enabling us to accomplish the practices and vows for Supreme Enlightenment.
釋迦本師。善名稱吉祥王等六佛世尊。十方三世一切正覺。及曼殊室利等八大菩薩。救脫執金剛等菩薩。阿難尊者。諸大聖眾。誓願等熏。哀愍攝護。十二藥叉。諸天梵魔龍鬼神等。護法聖賢。悉到道場。安慰堅守。同成淨行(三說)。
Shakyamuni, our original teacher, the Six World-Honored Buddhas including the Auspicious King of Excellent Name, all the Rightly Enlightened Ones of the ten directions and three times, the Eight Great Bodhisattvas including Manjushri, the Bodhisattva Deliverance and the Vajra-Wielding Bodhisattva, the Venerable Ananda, and all the great holy assemblies—may their vows and aspirations permeate us, and may they, with compassion, protect and embrace us. May the Twelve Yaksha Generals, all the devas, Brahma gods, maras, nagas, spirits, and other Dharma-protecting sages and worthies all arrive at this sacred site, offering comfort and steadfast support, joining together to accomplish this pure practice.
