His courtesy name was Deyuan, and his Buddhist name was Zhengxin. As a child, he read the Shurangama Sutra and felt as if he were revisiting a familiar homeland, keeping it in his heart without forgetting. Later, he went to Mingguo and sincerely sought entry into the monastery. Ying'an slapped his chest and said, "After the Minister dies, where will he go?" Startled, sweat broke out on him. Ying'an shouted him out. The Minister withdrew to reflect. Within ten days, he had already reached the profound depths of the school. He sent a verse to his fellow practitioner Yan Kangchao: "At the door, there's Sun Bin's shop; at home, Gan Zhi's wife stays. At night, sleep; at dawn, rise. Who truly awakens, and who is still lost?" Ying'an was pleased when he saw it. There was a seller of rouge who had also attended Ying'an for a long time and was quite conceited. The Minister gave him a verse: "Without applying rouge, one is naturally graceful. Often, Chan practitioners stop here. Once you pass through the old traps of past and present, then come here and eat a punch."
