**Translator's Note:** Master Gyunyeo was a Korean scholar of Huayan Buddhism. Since his works remained undiscovered for a long time, his Huayan studies were largely unknown to the world. Fortunately, in modern times, a biography of Gyunyeo and a preface written by Hyeok Yeon-jeong were found at the end of the book *Śikṣāsamuccaya of the Huayan Doctrine*, which shed clearer light on Gyunyeo's achievements and some of his teachings. Additionally, through the dedicated research of Dr. Kim Ji-gyeom of South Korea, Master Gyunyeo's value in Huayan studies began to be recognized. In 1976, the Korean Academy of Traditional Buddhist Studies published Dr. Kim's edited *Complete Works of Master Gyunyeo's Huayan Studies* (in Chinese), a significant contribution to the study of Korean Huayan scholars. The historical significance of Master Gyunyeo and his writings thus became clear to the academic world. While this matter has been widely discussed among Korean and Japanese Buddhist circles, not many in China are familiar with it. Therefore, this translator offers this introduction as a reference for domestic Buddhist communities.
