Seventy Emptiness Treatise with Sectional Analysis

1. Refuting the Unconditioned Nature of the Three Gates

Furthermore, there is no arising because the cause is not established. Why is this so?

If there is an effect, there is a cause that produces it. If there is no effect, there is no such cause. These two states do not contradict each other.

If something produces a result, it is called a cause precisely because it brings that result to completion. If no such result exists, then it is no different from a non-cause. If something is said to be neither producing a result nor not producing a result, that becomes contradictory—because having and not having a result cannot both be true at the same time.

Whether it exists, does not exist, or both and neither—all such views are flawed and thus cannot give rise to true understanding.
