Vinaya Essentials from the Four-Part Vinaya

Tang Dynasty Vinaya Master Fabao's Commentary

These three volumes are called the Collected Meaning Commentary on the Vinaya Pitaka. In the early years of our dynasty, the Patriarch of Nanshan composed this supplementary explanation to the Shishi Chao. At that time, the draft had only just been completed when it was stolen by a monk from Silla. For over two hundred years since then, the text has not been seen. In the spring of the fifth year of the Huichang era, fortunately, through the great benefactor Li Shiyu, courtesy name Yuanzuo, who sent word with the Korean scholar-official Jin Sheren to seek it in his homeland, we were able to obtain it from the Wisdom Bright Monastery in the royal capital of that country.
