> Chapter 15: Gathering Around the Stove

不得交頭接耳說話。不得彈垢膩火中。

> Do not whisper to each other. Do not flick dirt or grime into the fire.

交頭是雜話之端。彈垢則臭氣熏人。大律云。若毛髮。爪甲。涕唾。皮血。餅果。毒藥。著火中。皆得罪。清規云。不得撥火飛灰。

> Whispering in each other's ears is the start of idle gossip. Stirring the ashes spreads a foul smell that offends others. The Vinaya says: If hair, nails, spit, skin, blood, food, or poison are thrown into the fire, one commits an offense. The Pure Rules state: Do not poke the fire or scatter ashes.

不得烘焙鞋襪。不得向火太久。恐妨後人。稍煖便宜歸位。

> Do not dry shoes or socks by the fire. Do not warm yourself for too long, as it may inconvenience those who come after you. Once you feel slightly warm, promptly return to your place.

烘焙與太久。皆妨礙他人。箴規云。淨髮圍爐。禮宜謙讓。佛言。向火有五過失。一令人無顏色。二令人無力。三令人眼闇。四令多人閙集。五多說俗事。
