### 筠首座者嗣石門徹

> Master Yun <note>successor to Shimen Che</note>

太原人也。自至石門。逾三十年。叢林慕之。有僧請喫茶次。乃問。如何是首座為人一著子。曰。適來猶記得。云。郎今又如何。曰。好生點茶來。一日。荷鋤入園。僧問。三身中。那一身去作務。師拄鋤而立。僧曰。莫便當也無。師𢹂鋤便行。

> He was a native of Taiyuan. After arriving at Shimen, he stayed there for over thirty years, and the monastic community admired him. Once, a monk requested tea and asked, "What is the one essential truth the head monk offers to guide people?" The master replied, "I still remember it a moment ago." The monk said, "And now, how is it?" The master said, "Make sure to brew the tea well." One day, carrying a hoe into the garden, a monk asked, "Which of the three bodies goes to do the work?" The master propped up the hoe and stood still. The monk said, "Is that it, then?" The master shouldered his hoe and walked away.
