Bhagavad Gita (博伽梵歌)

序言

Preface

I originally wrote the English edition of *Bhagavad-gītā As It Is* in its present form. However, when this book was first published, the manuscript was unfortunately shortened to under four hundred pages, without illustrations and without explanations for most verses from the Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā. My other works—such as the Śrīmad Bhābhāgavatam, the Śrī Īśopaniṣad, and so forth—follow a method where I first write the original verse, followed by an English paraphrase, a word-for-word Sanskrit-English translation, the translation itself, and then a summary of the entire verse's meaning. This approach lends authenticity, academic rigor, and clarity to the text. Therefore, I was not pleased with the abridged version. Later, as the demand for the Gītā increased, many scholars and devotees asked me to present the book in its original form, and Messrs. Macmillan and Co. agreed to publish the full version. Thus, the present purpose is to present this great work in its original edition, along with its authorized commentary, in order to strengthen and invigorate the Krishna consciousness movement.

His DivineGrace Om Viṣṇupāda Paramahaṁsa Parivrā-jakācārya 108 Śrī śrīmadBhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmi Mahārāja Prabhupāda.

Our Krishna consciousness movement, being based on the original Bhagavad-gītā, is pure, historically authoritative, natural, and transcends all categories. It is especially becoming the most popular movement in the world among the younger generation, while gradually arousing interest among the older generation as well. The enthusiasm of elderly gentlemen can be seen from the fact that the fathers and grandfathers of my disciples have become lifelong members of this great organization of the Krishna consciousness movement. In Los Angeles, many parents have come to me to thank me for leading this worldwide Krishna consciousness movement. Some of them say that it is a great fortune for Americans that I started this movement in the United States. In truth, however, the father of this movement is Lord Krishna Himself, who long ago began its transmission through the chain of disciplic succession to human society. If I have any credit in this regard, it belongs not to me personally, but to my eternal spiritual master — His Divine Grace Oṁ Viṣṇupāda Paramahaṁsa Parivrājakācārya 108 Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Mahārāja Prabhupāda.

If there is any credit due to me in this matter, it is simply that I have done my utmost to present the Bhagavad-gītā as it is, without any distortion. Before my edition of the Bhagavad-gītā appeared, almost all English translations were written to fulfill personal desires. But our intention is to carry out the mission of conveying the will of the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa. The Bhagavad-gītā as it is is meant to communicate Kṛṣṇa’s will. We are unlike other worldly speculators—such as politicians, philosophers, or scientists—who, despite their extensive knowledge in other fields, know very little about Kṛṣṇa.

When Kṛṣṇa says, *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*, we do not, like so-called scholars, claim that Kṛṣṇa is different from His inner self. Kṛṣṇa is absolute. There is no difference between Kṛṣṇa’s name, Kṛṣṇa’s form, Kṛṣṇa’s qualities, and Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes. The absolute nature of Kṛṣṇa is very difficult to understand for those who are not devoted to Kṛṣṇa in the *paramparā* (disciplic succession). Usually, so-called scholars, politicians, philosophers, and *svāmīs* (those who control their minds and senses) lack complete knowledge of Kṛṣṇa, and when they write commentaries on the Bhagavad-gītā, they either ignore or reject Him. These unauthorized commentaries on the Bhagavad-gītā are known as *Māyāvādī-Bhāṣya*. Lord Caitanya has warned us to be wary of such unauthorized persons. Lord Caitanya clearly stated that anyone who tries to understand the Bhagavad-gītā from the *Māyāvādī* perspective will make a grave mistake. The result of this mistake is that misled readers of the Bhagavad-gītā will become confused on the path of spiritual guidance and will not be able to return home, back to the Supreme Lord.

Just as Krishna descends to this planet once every day of Brahma, which spans 86 billion years, our only purpose is to present the Bhagavad-gita as it is, guiding those conditioned students who seek it. The Gita makes this goal clear, and we must accept it exactly as it is; otherwise, there is no point in trying to understand this book or its original speaker—Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna first spoke the Bhagavad-gita to the Sun-god hundreds of millions of years ago. We must accept this fact directly, based on Krishna’s authority, and understand the historical significance of the Gita. To try to understand it without Krishna’s will is a grave mistake. To avoid this mistake, we should see the Lord as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, just as Arjuna, Krishna’s first disciple, did. This understanding will truly and authoritatively benefit human society in fulfilling life’s mission.

Krishna consciousness is essential for human society because it brings life to its fullest perfection. The Bhagavad Gita explains in great detail how this is done. Unfortunately, mundane debaters have misused the Bhagavad Gita to further their own evil habits, misleading people from understanding the simple principles of life correctly. Everyone should recognize how great God, or Krishna, is and what the actual position of every individual soul is. Everyone should understand that the individual soul is eternally a servant; unless one serves Krishna, one will instead serve the illusory manifestations arising from the three modes of material nature. Thus one will remain trapped in the cycle of birth and death—even those who call themselves speculative philosophers cannot escape this. This knowledge constitutes an important science, and every living being should listen to it for their own benefit.

People, especially in this Kali Yuga, are trapped by Krishna's external energy. They mistakenly believe that material progress will make everyone happy. They do not understand that material nature is extremely stubborn, because everyone is bound by its strict laws. A living being is part of the Lord—naturally joyful—so its innate purpose is to serve the Lord. In confusion, people try to find happiness through various forms of sense gratification, but they will never be truly happy. Instead of satisfying their own material senses, they should satisfy the Lord's wishes. This is the highest perfection of life. The Lord desires this; He commands it. Understanding this is the core message of the Bhagavad-gītā. Our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement teaches this central idea to the entire world, because we have not polluted the original theme of the Gītā. Anyone who seriously wants to benefit from studying the Bhagavad-gītā should seek help from the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement and truly understand the Gītā under the Lord's direct guidance. Therefore, our hope is that people will gain the greatest benefit from reading the original Bhagavad-gītā as we present it here. Even if only one person becomes a genuinely pure devotee of the Lord, we will consider our effort a success.

I notice you've provided a name in Chinese characters that appears to reference "A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami" (likely A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada). However, this appears to be a name rather than a Buddhist scripture text to translate.

If you'd like me to translate Buddhist scripture text, please provide the actual scripture passage you'd like translated, and I'll apply the Buddhist translation standards you've specified.
