The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Yongji Rong is a compilation of the discourses of Yongji Rong, a Linji school Chan master of the Qing Dynasty in China, recorded and edited by his disciples, including Miaoyin, among others. This work reflects the practice style and intellectual characteristics of Chan communities in the early Qing period. It primarily contains Master Rong's formal hall teachings, sharp exchanges of dialogue, and verses of instruction to the assembly, collectively embodying the distinctive Chan approach of the Linji school: directly pointing to the human mind, seeing one's nature, and attaining Buddhahood. As an important Chan document of the Qing Dynasty, this record serves not only as a primary source for studying Master Rong's thought but also provides valuable material for investigating the history of Buddhism and the development of Chan studies during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It holds an academically significant position within the system of Chinese Buddhist recorded sayings, bridging earlier and later traditions.
