The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Xiangya Ting This is a compilation of the words and deeds of Chan Master Xingting of the Qing Dynasty, re-published by his disciple Yiwen. Chan Master Xingting was active during the late Ming and early Qing periods, belonging to the Linji lineage. His recorded sayings emerged during a historical period when Chinese Chan Buddhism transitioned from its peak to a phase of consolidation. The contents encompass formal hall sermons, pointed dialogues, epistolary instructions, and more, vividly presenting the essence of his Chan teachings and methods of guiding students. They emphasize the fundamental Chan principle of directly pointing to the human mind, seeing one's nature, and attaining Buddhahood. As an important Chan document from the Ming-Qing transition, these sayings not only transmit the style of the Linji school but also provide invaluable primary source material for the study of Qing Dynasty Chan thought and practice. Within the corpus of Chinese Buddhist texts, they hold significant academic value in connecting past and future, as well as practical guidance for spiritual cultivation.
