示眾
Addressing the Assembly
To the assembly, he said: "If you wish to understand the ways of the world, you must blend principle and practice seamlessly. If you seek to transcend the world, you must let go of both self and phenomena entirely—without clinging to principle or practice. Just hold onto a single meditation topic, morning and night, remaining quiet and detached from others. With sustained effort over time, the knot of doubt will suddenly burst open, and everything will reveal itself clearly: every object, every moment, shows its true nature. At that point, without hesitation, you can say directly: 'Free from all traps and cages, no idle interpretations remain.'"
To the assembly, he said: "In daily life, there's nothing out of the ordinary—just one worn-out straw sandal. With its front and back halves, how much thread was wasted on it! What is the principle behind this worn-out state? A two-headed donkey has three horns, and an inch of turtle fur weighs seven pounds."
