> "Showing a Single Reed"

楖栗一條，道人活計，片語不合，掉頭而去，可憐世人，反耽世味。縱有學人，自稱標致，觸著便喝，胃承臨濟，忽遇利名，如蠅死涕。汝其慎之，聽我半偈：佛法、世法，一葦瞥地。

> A single walking stick, a monk's livelihood. One word unspoken, he turns and leaves. How pitiful the world, still lost in its flavors. Though some claim the Way, calling themselves refined, At a touch they shout, pretending to inherit Linji's style. Yet caught by profit and fame, like flies stuck to dying tears. Be on your guard, and hear my verse: Dharma and worldly truth—both pierce through at once, like a single reed touching ground.
