The Bodhisattva disciple Zhixu, having pricked his tongue to draw blood, writes the Mahayana sutras and precepts. First, before the Three Jewels, he burns twelve sticks of incense on his arm and makes twelve vows.
May my deceased father and all fathers from beginningless time cut off the clinging to self from beginningless time, be reborn in the Land of Bliss, and receive the prediction of Buddhahood.
May my deceased mother and all mothers from beginningless time cut off the root afflictions, be born from a lotus, and receive the prediction of Buddhahood.
May all present companions on the path, and all true good friends of the past, first perfect complete enlightenment.
May all beings throughout the Dharma Realm break the two kinds of clinging, cut off all suffering, attain the indestructible body, purify the threefold pure precepts, perfect right concentration, realize true wisdom, arouse the mind of enlightenment, attain non-retrogression, and return to unsurpassed awakening.
By the power of this good cause—the arousing of the mind and the making of vows—may it be universally bestowed upon the Dharma Realm, that all may together realize non-duality and non-arising, non-attainment and non-action, forever leave behind delusion, and together realize eternal bliss.
