Reciting Mantras: Preliminary Explanation
智旭供臂香五炷，願持滅定業真言百萬，觀音靈感、七佛滅罪、藥師灌頂、往生淨土真言，各十萬。次當結壇，持大悲咒十萬。又三炷，供證明比丘廣鎬等，鎬各然三炷，隨喜助發。所願如來正法復興，末世弊端盡革。光明壽命，稱性量而無量；福德智慧，等虛空而不空。普與含生，同生安養。
Zhi Xu offered five arm-length incense sticks, vowing to recite the Mantra for Eliminating Fixed Karma one million times, and the Guanyin Inspirational Mantra, the Seven Buddhas' Mantra for Dispelling Offenses, the Medicine Buddha Empowerment Mantra, and the Rebirth in the Pure Land Mantra, each one hundred thousand times. Next, he will establish an altar and recite the Great Compassion Mantra one hundred thousand times. Then, three more incense sticks were offered to the witnessing bhikshu Guang Gao and others; Gao and each of the others also lit three sticks, rejoicing in and supporting the aspiration. The wish is that the Tathagata's true Dharma may flourish again, and the corrupt practices of the degenerate age be completely reformed. May the light and lifespan, in accordance with the nature's measure, be immeasurable; may merit, virtue, and wisdom, equal to space, be not empty. May all sentient beings together be reborn in the Land of Peace and Nourishment.
